Wellington Exchange Trips
The Sakai-Wellington Association has organised these since 1996, in an effort to advance international goodwill.
The Association hopes to deepen friendship between the two cities, and get to know New Zealand by visiting Wellington, touring the city, and getting to know Kiwis through the welcome party and a homestay programme.
The homestays in particular make an impression on those who go. Having the chance to see how people really live in New Zealand, and experience various aspects of it for themselves, they are able to make heartfelt friendships with not just their host families, but also the people of Wellington in general. Also, depending on the time of the trip, sometimes visitors are able to participate in “Wellington-Sakai Day”, which marks the anniversary of the cities’ sister city relationship, and is part of the Wellington Japan Festival.Though the trips are only for a week, it’s a wonderful chance to advance exchange between the two cities.
